Flexikon Write Club

26. April 2016

The Flexikon is all about medical knowledge. Get ready for the battle: We show you all the important tips and tricks to win the fight against ignorance! The principle of the Flexikon Write Club is simple: Participate – share your medical knowledge. But there are some rules members should definitively respect.

1st RULE

You don’t talk about Write Club.

2nd RULE

You DO NOT talk about Write Club.

3rd RULE

When writing in the Flexikon, please respect the quality standards, especially spelling and punctuation.

4th RULE

Just one article at a time: Before you create a new page, always check ahead if the term also exists by another synonym. Please check alternative spellings, abbreviations etc. Besides that you should definitively check if the page title is spelled correctly, because you can’t change it afterwords (but if it happens nevertheless, please just let us know).

5th RULE

Start your article with the synonyms. After that, each article starts with the first heading, which is always called “Definition” and the according text. Within the definition, the word which is defined is written in bold style, but only when it appears for the first time.

6th RULE

Headlines are created like this: ==Headline==

The headlines are automatically put in numeric order and displayed in bold type, so you don’t have to do that yourself. The list of contents creates itself as soon as there are more than 3 headlines in an article. Sub headings just get one = more: ===Sub heading===

Organize your article in practical paragraphs and stay objective, as far as possible. Enumerations are created with a * before the keyword. If there is another sub-point, one further * follows:

* Enumeration

** Sub-point

7th RULE

Link everything that’s relevant, but only when it appears for the first time.

  • Simple link: [[Word]]
  • Link of the first part of a word, the singular form: e.g. [[leg]]s will be displayed as legs, but is linked to leg
  • Link to another word: e.g. [[Numerus Clausus | NC]] is displayed as NC but links to Numerus Clausus.

To link to an external website, please use this structure: [http://www.who.int/en/ WHO]

Use external links only if necessary or very important, because if an external website goes offline, we maybe don’t notice that and users will be directed to a dead page.

8th RULE

And the last rule in Write Club: Who’s new to Write Club has to write!

You can find further information on links, formats etc. in our user guide. Besides that you can start practicing on our playground – here you can try it and practice without the risk of “destroying” something. So let’s start… If you have any questions, just send us an e-mail!
